Description

English Yew is one of the most distinctive and sought-after native timbers – and one of the most durable. Vivid contrast between the creamy white sapwood and rich orange-red to deep brown heartwood, with tight, swirling grain and natural lustre that polishes to a glassy finish without additional filling. Waney-edge yew boards, where both zones are present, are particularly striking. Genuinely rare in board form.

Exceptional for turned bowls and vessels, small furniture, decorative panels, knife handles and jewellery. The tight grain holds fine detail superbly. Naturally durable Class 1-2 – the most durable of all European native timbers, suitable above ground externally without treatment. Important note: all parts of the living yew tree are toxic; the dried, processed timber and its dust are safe for handling and general use but should not be used for food-contact surfaces such as chopping boards or salad bowls.

Machines and polishes to a fine finish. Wear a mask when working it, as yew dust irritates.
