Terms & Conditions

Last reviewed: 6 September 2026

These terms apply to your use of this website and to any goods or services you order from Valley Sawmills. Please read them before you order. By placing an order you accept them.

1. Who we are

Valley Sawmills is a trading name of Herriard Sawmills Ltd, a company registered in England and Wales, company number 02231169.

Our registered office is Birchmead, Peppershells Lane, Compton Dando, Bristol, England, BS39 4LL. Our VAT number is GB 491513447.

The mill and yard are at Valley Sawmills, Holwell, Frome, Somerset, BA11 4PZ. Telephone 01373 836375. Email hello@valleysawmills.co.uk.

2. Prices and VAT

Prices shown on this website are in pounds sterling and include VAT. The VAT element is shown separately in your basket, at checkout and on your order confirmation.

We take a lot of care over pricing, but timber is cut to order and prices move. If we find that the price of something you have ordered is wrong, we will contact you before we process the order and you can confirm the corrected price or cancel.

3. Ordering

Firewood is the only product you can buy and pay for directly on this website. Everything else is priced on enquiry, because most of what we sell is cut to your sizes. Send us the details through the contact form or ring the yard and we will come back with a price and a lead time.

When you place a firewood order online you will receive an email confirming we have it. That email is an acknowledgement, not acceptance. A contract between us is formed when we confirm your delivery or collection.

4. Timber is a natural material

Timber varies. Colour, grain, knots, shakes and small splits are natural features and not defects. Green and air dried timber will move, shrink and check as it dries. Sizes given are nominal sawn sizes before any planing unless we state otherwise. We will always tell you what you are getting, but we cannot guarantee that two boards will look the same.

5. Delivery

Firewood
Firewood delivery is free on orders of £70 or more within 20 miles of the mill at Frome. Below that, or outside that radius, ring the yard on 01373 836375 and we will talk through the options.

Timber and everything else
Delivery is quoted with the price of the job, this is based on your dellivery postcode.

Planning Your Delivery

Tell us about your access
If your entrance is tight, the lane is narrow, or there is anything else we ought to know about getting to you, tell us when you order. It makes the difference between the right vehicle turning up and the wrong one.

Some loads come on the 7.5 tonne truck. That one delivers to the kerb or the gate. Our 3.5 tonne vehicles are smaller and can usually get closer to where you want the load.

Before we come
We will ring you before delivery so you know when to expect us. It helps if you can be there. On a bigger load we may ask whether you can lend a hand offloading.

Where the load goes
We will agree a delivery date with you. Delivery is to hard standing our vehicle can reach. Making sure there is safe access, and somewhere to put the load, is down to you.

Going further onto your site than that is the driver’s call on the day. They know what the vehicle will do and what the ground will take, and they will not risk getting stuck or damaging your surfaces.

Bagged logs
Log Store and Hearth Bags come off on our wheeled trolley. We will do our best to get them round to your log store or back door, as long as that is within about 20 metres of where the vehicle can stand.

Where there are steps, uneven or soft surfaces, barriers or a narrow passageway we will get them as close as we can and put them somewhere sensible. That is the driver’s call too.

6. Collection

Collecting from the yard
You are welcome to collect from the yard at Holwell, and collection is free. Choose collection at checkout, or ring the yard and we will sort it out over the phone, or just pop in.

When we are open
Monday to Friday, 8am to 5pm. Saturday, 8am to 12pm. Closed Sunday.

Please plan to arrive at least half an hour before we close. That gives you time to load properly and strap it down without anyone rushing.

Planning Your Visit

Ring ahead
If you want a particular quantity, ring the yard on 01373 836375. It saves you a wasted trip.

Loading
We will give you a hand loading where we can. This is a working yard, so if the loader or the staff are tied up you may have to wait a few minutes.

Come with a vehicle that suits what you are collecting, and bring straps or rope. Long timber needs a vehicle that can carry it safely. If you are not sure, ring and ask before you set off.

Securing the load is down to you. We will not send anyone out of the gate with a load that will not travel, so if we think it is not safe we will say so and we will help you sort it.

Timber, especially when wet, can be heavy. It’s your responsibility to load appropriately for your vehicle.

How long we hold an order
We will hold a paid order for collection for two weeks. If you need longer than that, ring the yard and we will do what we can.

7. Cancelling and returning

Our returns and refunds policy sits on its own page and forms part of these terms.

8. Cut to size and bespoke orders

Anything we cut, machine or make specifically to your sizes is a bespoke order. Bespoke orders cannot be cancelled once cutting has started, and cannot be returned unless they are faulty or not what was agreed.

9. If something is wrong

Tell us. Ring the yard on 01373 836375 or email hello@valleysawmills.co.uk.

Under the Consumer Rights Act 2015 goods must be as described, fit for purpose and of satisfactory quality. Nothing in these terms affects your legal rights.

10. Trade customers

The price is the same for trade and retail. We offer volume accounts. Contact the office for details.

Where you buy in the course of a business, the consumer cancellation rights in our returns policy do not apply, though your rights in respect of faulty or misdescribed goods remain.

11. Our liability

We are responsible for loss you suffer that is a foreseeable result of us breaking these terms. We are not responsible for loss that is not foreseeable, nor for business losses.

We do not limit our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud, or for anything else that cannot be limited by law.

12. Your information

How we handle your information is set out in our Privacy Policy.

13. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms. The version that applies to your order is the one published on the day you place it.

14. Law

These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and the courts of England and Wales have jurisdiction.
