How your order arrives depends on how it is packed. Logstore Bags come off on a trolley; Dumpy Bags and Tippers come straight off the vehicle; crates need firm, level ground.

Firewood questions

Good to know before you order

Both are Ready to Burn, so both are at or under 20% moisture. Our Ready to Burn Kiln Dried is hardwood Beech at 4 to 14% moisture. It lights easily, gives very low smoke and burns the same way every time, which suits modern stoves, pizza ovens and fire pits.

Our Ready to Burn Seasoned is local hardwood, cut and dried here near Frome. It’s under 20%, with mixed log sizes, and gives a warm, steady fire in stoves and open fires. It’s our everyday recommendation and costs less.

Ready to Burn means the firewood is certified at 20% moisture or below. Dry wood lights easier, gives more heat and less smoke, and is kinder to your stove and flue. Below 2 m³ we can only sell firewood certified at or under 20%, which is what both our Ready to Burn options are.

As a loose guide: a Logstore Bag holds about 0.25 m³, a Dumpy Bag about 0.75 m³, a Large Crate about 0.9 m³ and a tipper about 3 m³. Four Logstore Bags make about 1 m³.

A crate is stacked tight, so it holds more wood than a loose bag of the same size. The volumes we show are the loose, bagged equivalent so you can compare like with like.

It depends on your stove, how many nights you light it and for how long. As an example, a standard 4 to 6 kW stove lit for four hours, five nights a week, from October to March uses about 2.8 m³. The calculator further up this page works out yours.

Our firewood prices include delivery within about 20 miles of Valley, on orders of £70 or more. That covers Frome, Warminster, Westbury, Trowbridge, Shepton Mallet, Bruton, Radstock, Midsomer Norton, Wells and parts of Bath, among others. Further away? Ask us for a quote.

Under £70: free collection only.

Delivered within 7 working days (Monday to Friday). Need it sooner? Just ask.

We’ll be in touch by the next working day to book your delivery, and we’ll call you from 01373 836 375 to agree a day that suits. Haven’t heard from us by the end of the next working day? Give us a ring on 01373 836 375.

Yes. Ready to Season is green local hardwood that you stack and dry yourself, and it’s the cheapest way to buy. It’s above 20% moisture, so it’s sold in orders of 2 m³ and over: eight Logstore Bags (2 m³) for £398, three Dumpy Bags (2.25 m³) for £380 or a 3 m³ tipper for £392. Stack it for a summer and burn it the winter after.

Keep it off the ground, with a cover over the top and the sides open so air can move through it. Kiln Dried firewood is best kept somewhere fully dry, like a shed or a covered logstore, so it stays as dry as the day it arrived.

Our prices are for 10 inch logs. If you need something different, ring us on 01373 836 375.

A buyer's guide

Buying firewood in Frome, Bath and Somerset

Good firewood comes down to two things: how dry it is and how much you get for your money. Wet wood hisses, smokes and leaves tar in your flue. Dry wood lights first time and gives you the heat you paid for. That is why everything we sell in loads under 2 m³ is certified Ready to Burn, at or under 20% moisture.

Kiln Dried firewood is dried in a kiln to a very low moisture level. Ours is hardwood Beech at 4 to 14%, and it’s the most consistent fire you can buy: very low smoke, easy to light and the same every time. If you have a modern stove, a pizza oven or a fire pit, it’s the easy choice.

Seasoned firewood is dried more slowly. Ours is local hardwood, cut and dried here at Holwell, at under 20%. It’s warm and steady in a stove or an open fire, comes in mixed log sizes and costs less than Kiln Dried. For most homes it’s the one we recommend.

If you’re short on space or buying for the first time, a Logstore Bag is the easy start: about 0.25 m³, wheeled to your logstore. If you burn most nights, a bigger load saves real money. A single Logstore Bag of Ready to Burn Seasoned works out at £316 per m³. A 3 m³ tipper works out at £152 per m³, less than half the price for the same firewood. Dumpy Bags and Large Crates sit in between.

If you have room to stack and can wait a winter, Ready to Season is the cheapest way to buy. It’s green wood, so it’s sold in orders of 2 m³ and over, from £380. Stack it off the ground with a cover on top, let the summer do the work and burn it the winter after.

We deliver from our sawmill at Holwell, just outside Frome. Our firewood prices include delivery within about 20 miles, on orders of £70 or more. That covers Frome, Warminster, Westbury, Trowbridge, Bradford on Avon, Radstock, Midsomer Norton, Shepton Mallet, Bruton, Wincanton, Wells and parts of Bath. Further away? Ask us for a quote. Your firewood is delivered within 7 working days, and we’ll call you from 01373 836 375 to agree a day. Prefer to see it first? Call in at the yard and take a couple of logs home to try.
