Description
European Oak is the benchmark hardwood – warm honey-brown with prominent ray flecks, open grain and a character that deepens with age to rich amber and gold. The medullary rays (silver grain) are most visible on quartersawn faces. Dense, strong, naturally high in tannins that protect it against decay and insect attack.
Suitable for almost everything: furniture, flooring, cladding, garden structures, gate posts, frames and beams. Food safe when finished with food-grade oil – excellent for chopping boards, kitchen counters and dining tables. Naturally durable Class 2 – can be used externally above ground without treatment. Tannin content means it will stain in contact with iron fixings; use stainless or hot-dip galvanised where exposed to moisture. One of the most versatile timbers in the range.
