Burr Oak Timber Board

Description

Burr Oak forms where a tree responds to injury or disease by producing a dense cluster of dormant buds – the result is a swirling, interlocked grain unlike anything in conventional timber. Each board is a one-off: tight, complex figure with eyes, swirls and cathedral patterns in warm amber and brown, often with darker streaking. The same tannin-rich, naturally durable properties as European Oak apply.

Best used where the figure can be appreciated – tabletops, headboards, decorative panels, turned bowls and sculptural pieces. Machines and finishes beautifully when sharp tooling is used; the interlocked grain can tear with dull blades. Food safe when oiled. Genuinely rare material – boards are selected individually and priced accordingly. Not available in large quantities.
