Here at Valley Sawmills we take every reasonable step to ensure your logs are as dry as possible and it should be remembered that well seasoned logs will provide a warming fire even if they do occasionally get a little damp on the outside - the secret is to light your fire properly...........

  • Use paper or fire lighters and some kindling to start off.
  • Add small split logs until the fire catches.
  • Only add larger logs once the fire is established.
  • Put a few logs for the next fire in a basket and place close to your fire, (not too close), to assist with the drying process.

These tips should ensure your fire will light and burn more efficiently.

If however you definitely need your firewood to be dry and under 20% moisture content, we also supply kiln dried Hardwood logs, at what we believe, is one of most competitive prices.

All our hardwood logs come from trees which have been felled between one and two years ago. Once the trees have been felled they are transported to our outside store and then cut and bagged ready to be delivered. Whilst we do as much as we can to protect the logs once they have been cut, we have no control over the weather conditions and during the winter months they can sometimes become a little damp and the moisture content will also fluctuate depending on the time of year and the weather.

It's worth remembering that so called “seasoned logs” can vary in moisture content.

Fresh cut – 40% to 50%
Part seasoned – 25% to 35%
Fully seasoned – 20% or less

Fresh cut logs take about 6 months to dry or basically a season, hence the name “seasoned”. To dry, stack them with plenty of ventilation, ideally in the Spring.

In difficult times we know that every little bit of help is appreciated and so we have now introduced and, built, a new self-collection log station at the yard which will enable customers to easily and quickly select either a £60 or a £30 load of loose logs put straight into your car boot – so no need to buy in large quantities, which can be expensive and sometimes difficult to store if you don’t have the space. We now also do small loads of kiln dried logs - a 1/4 bulk bag for only £50.00!

Available in nets, bulk bags or full crates. Our Kiln Dried Logs are ideal for wood burning and multi-fuel stoves. Their low moisture content ensures that these logs burn efficiently making them a cost-effective alternative to other seasoned logs. It means that we can now supply dry and ready to use logs all year round whatever the weather throws at us!

The utmost care is taken to ensure our logs are delivered to you as expected. However, brash content, (bark, small pieces etc), is unavoidable and we try to keep this to a minimum. Please note that with all transit loads of logs delivered, you will always receive the equivalent of four bulk bags of logs regardless of brash content.

Bulk bagged hardwood logs from as little as £122 collected or £140 for local delivery. Transit lorry loads, equivalent to 4 bulk bags, are available at £360.

Please also note that our part seasoned hardwood logs are 10" long. 8" lengths can be cut with a small additional charge of £25.00 per Bag or £43.00 Transit load.

Kiln dried logs provide you with the ultimate burn quality with maximum heat output, plus burning kiln dried logs will ensure your stove glass is kept clean and will prevent a build-up of soot or tar in your chimney or flue. Available in nets, bulk bags or full crates, our Kiln Dried Hardwood logs are dried to an average of less than 20% moisture content making them ideal for wood burning and multi-fuel stoves. Their low moisture content ensures that these logs burn efficiently making them a cost effective alternative to other seasoned logs. It also means that we can now supply dry and ready to use logs all year round whatever the weather throws at us!

Bulk bagged Kiln Dried logs are available at £200 collected or £218 delivered locally. We are also able to supply a crate, (approx 2 bulk bags), of logs for £318 delivered or £300 collected. Nets of KD logs are also available at £11.00 per bag.

We also supply large bags of kindling at £6.50 per bag and smokeless coal at £20 per 20kg bag, these can also be delivered with your log orders or collected from our Holwell site. Please note that there is a small delivery charge on these items if delivered separately.
